Where do I start
After 3 years of knowing something wasn’t right with my young horse, having had so many professionals opinions that she was ‘just unbalanced, lazy, push her forward, she’s too opinionated’ and after seeing (through a friend) the way Shelly viewed horse training and was able to read and listen to horses through all those subtle clues our horses constantly give us, I took my mare to Shelly for her opinion.
Very quickly it became evident that my horse wasn’t just naughty or lazy, there was something wrong. Which, out of all the professionals over 3 years, not one saw her situation this way. At this point I had a shutdown horse that was battling constant ulcers and becoming an angry pressure cooker as no one was listening. Shelly had my mare sussed pretty much within the first few blinks of seeing her and over a few sessions of elimination it became evident that veterinary exploration was our next step. It turns out my mare had good reason to be trying to tell me she wasn’t coping and is now semi retired. Not only was Shelly hugely instrumental in getting this answer, but she also helped ME as a strung out, emotionally frustrated horse owner, know that along the way, I had done what I could in seeking answers for my horse... and being ok with coming to the end conclusion. It’s a hugely emotional journey and to have someone with Shelly’s knowledge on your side is a big leg up!
My mare has now been ulcer free for 12 months and is looking amazing. She has that happy, content look in her eye and because of all Shelly’s teaching and blogs etc, I can now read her like a book when something isn’t right or if she’s struggling. The biggest thing I’m grateful for from Shelly is now being able to recognize and read all those horse communication signals, how I didn’t see them before blows me away!
What has been seen, now cannot be unseen - Thank You Shelly - Maz is forever grateful.
