LESSONS FROM CANTER THERAPY
LESSONS FROM CANTER THERAPY
Canter Therapy started out as a term I use in my training program, but today it is more known for my podcast that I co-host with my good friend Kat (Kathryn Christieson )
I thought it was about time I told you a bit more of the background behind the podcast and about the lessons Kat and I have learnt along the way.
I am going to blame Kat for the idea. When we met, we just clicked and we can just talk about horses all day.
Whilst I had accumulated a knowledge base on horse training, Kat had this wealth of knowledge that was similar except she had this seriously impressive education and skill set in hoof care.
We also both worked at the coal face of the everyday horse owner and saw the common problems or confusion that existed out there.
We were also riled up over some bad ideas being spread and a heap of pseudoscience that was getting people lost down rabbit holes and horses struggling. So, we decided to stand up and do something about it. We knew that we were privileged with our backgrounds and experience and it was time to share it.
So, instead of just talking on the phone for ages sharing our thoughts and discoveries, we recorded it and called it Canter Therapy Podcast. And that is how it started!
We see Canter Therapy as a podcast of practical advice and stories on relevant topics from interesting quality people, minus any spiritual journeys, life coaches or gurus. That stuff we leave for other podcasts.
Kat and I are tremendously proud of the amount of people that contact us to let us know they enjoy Canter Therapy and have gained so much from it.
Each year our number of downloads grows exponentially.
We remember being amused when we had 10 downloads, then freaked out when we had 100,
We have sort of got used to being recognised for our voices more than our faces and we are living proof that you can get over feeling weird about the sound of your voice!
We have learnt great things from some incredible people.
The thing we have found the most surprising is how generous people are with their time. I remember nearly falling off my office chair when I plucked up the courage to email Karen Rolfe to ask her to be a guest and she replied almost instantly with a YES!
We are a great team, some how we manage to get episodes out even though both of us have stupid crazy diaries, travel and study commitments, plus the odd episode of exhaustion. We get each other and if the only time we can record an episode is 5am in the morning we do it!
Here is our 2023 wrap up and list of things that we learnt!
