HORSES TALK IF YOU KNOW HOW TO LISTEN
Everyone is on the look out for a NO, but what about OKAY?
Horse's talk if you know how to listen.
It is not uncommon for the first thing we hear the horse communicate is NO.
If we are lucky, that moment can take us on a journey to figure out how to get a horse to say YES.
But I think it is next level when you can start to appreciate and respect how often your horse actually say "OKAY".
I think that can be overlooked as the horse is just doing what you expect.
Really, the entire art of working with horses is about getting them doing what we ask and feeling okay about it....so we really need to get good at seeing "okay"....not just "no" or "yes" but "okay"!
Today, there was a post on my group page by a very wise horsewoman Marcelle Schmitz as she pointed this very thing:
Here is her post:
"It struck me today how horses say "okay" a lot. I mean, a LOT. Often.
This morning I had Max on a lead and his 2 buddies at liberty, going from one paddock to another. The two free ones took off playfully in the fresh wind and Max wanted to join them.
He forgot about me and started prancing and tossing his head and complaining about the rope.
I just turned him around and straight away he said "okay". Like, seriously "I'm all yours".
It blows me away how obliging they are, even when its not what they really want to do.
And they say it all day, multiple times. "Okay I'll leave my buddies "okay you can saddle me up" "okay we'll go where you want" "okay I'll stand while you fiddle with my feet".....the list goes on.
Random thoughts, I know, but just....appreciate this special species."
So, this post is to remind you to start seeing all those things you ask of your horse and they say "okay".
And if they are not saying "okay", please realise you can do something about that
