This is footage from a recent clinic. This horse started the clinic extremely anxious, highly distracted and difficult to handle.

I have a very simple approach to training horses - horses need to be motivated to pay attention to you and learn to follow your guidance. A consistent way of motivating and communicating with the horse builds connection and confidence and the horse learns to stay with you.

This is the first thing I teach - leading. In the end I want to be able to lead a horse from anywhere I communicate with it to be - in front, by my side or behind. But I always start by teaching the horse to lead from behind. WHY - because it teaches focus - teaches the horse to follow....and it is a SIMPLE task that the horse can easily learn and they get confident in quickly...hence they can feel successful in navigating you. Then you just “add on”....all the way up to ridden work!

I helped this horse during this session and solved his high anxiety, extreme distraction and very difficult behaviour purely by TEACHING him to lead really well.

You don’t FIX horses, you TEACH them and LEARN to communicate with them well....and this is what you can expect from attending one of my clinics ❤️
