Things you do that you need to stop #1

Things you do that you need to stop doing to a horse #1

Being oblivious to how you pick up the lead rope or rein when you ask them to do something.

You need to consciously control your hand.

You need to pick up with care.

It cannot be fast or rough because you cause the horse the brace itself and worse - associate your touch with discomfort.

If your horse responds poorly to you when you pick up on them. They are dull, lean, resist, throw their head up or are heavy. It means they ARE bracing and struggling to see any meaning in your touch.

It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with the horse - it means the problem most likely is your lack of conscious control and awareness of the movement of your hands.

It means you are just like me before I learnt to control my hands and become aware of how I was making horses feel and what I was making hard for them to understand.
