the irony of the aussie brumby and mankind

There is a Horse in this Photo - Can You See It?

In this photo are two species: a lot of humans and their construction of a hydro-electric plant, and a lone horse. One of these species is currently being culled by aerial shooting as it is feral and causing ecological damage to the environment. Nothing screams the irony of this situation more than this photo

As a proponent of the horse, the killing of these beautiful animals is horrifying. How they are actually dying is awful. Horses are dying, riddled with bullets, and foals are left to die. Not clear head shots. It is ugly.

There are people out there fighting for the brumbies, petitioning the government, writing letters, and posting on social media. They are physically putting themselves on the ground, checking herds, photographing evidence, screaming at the helicopters to go away and saving foals.

Then there are others who capture, gentle, and train brumbies for rehoming. There are also those who take them in and provide them with homes.

To the brumby advocates and owners, I respect your dedication and courage.

I know the debate about wild horses in Australia is complicated. There are pros and cons and dilemmas at every turn. But I believe we can do better than this barbaric cruelty.

These horses have great value. Besides being intrinsically linked in history, they have been shaped as nature intended, making them special with unique physical and sensory soundness that can set them apart from their domestic counterparts.

Please turn your attention to what is happening to these horses. They need more people looking out for them, prepared to give them homes, and help them adapt to new lives.

Also, I'm sure the people out there advocating and actively trying to protect these horses would appreciate the backup.
