SMALL THINGS BIG IMPACT
SMALL THINGS BIG IMPACT
In any relationship it’s the small things that count. It is within small, routine or seemly inconsequential interactions between people where trust is either destroyed or nurtured. It is because it is the consistency of how you ACT during these small moments that show how reliable you are and how much you care.
In the relationship with your horse, the impact of “small things” is magnified. This is because all horses have is our raw actions and their consequences to judge and interpret us. We can talk to each other and rationalise the actions of others. This helps us explain, understand or forgive the actions of others. Horses can only observe, feel and experience us. As they experience us, they learn. What they learn is more than just particular responses. They can learn negative associations, attitudes, emotions and ways of moving their bodies that can either protect or be detrimental to their longevity. All these things then impact their confidence, motivation, focus, fitness, gymnastic strength etc.
In the words of George Morris – “every second, you’re either schooling or un-schooling your horse - there is no in-between”.
