gippsland, victoria clinic 3-5 July 2023

I am heading over to the Gippsland region Victoria for a 3 day clinic. The clinic is held at the Cottonwood Grove Stables, 50 Frouds Road, Giffard West Victoria 3851.

I have an insightful and simple process that changes horses and gives you a sense of incompetence and confidence with your horse.

You don't have to be brave or strong to work well with horses - you just have to understand them to effectively influence them.

What to Expect at a Clinic Event

At these clinics you start working with Shelley a week prior to the event by working through a pre-clinic online course. A week prior to the clinic there is a pre-clinic Zoom meeting with all participant. During the two days of the clinic participants work in small groups and pairs and are involved in daily discussion and presentations. Activities involve a mix of groundwork and ridden work depending on where the horse is at. These clinics give everyone a “taste” of Shelley’s methods and approaches to working with horses. Each horse is respected as an individual and allows everyone to gain insights into how to support a horse to progress their training and performance; overcome problems and struggles; and nurture partnership and connection (and what this really means practically!).

If you have worked with Shelley previously, you will continue from where you are up to to ensure that you are constantly set up to progress.

What You will Learn

The core principle you will discover working with Shelley is that everything you train and expect under saddle has a starting point on the ground. By understanding this starting point and how it progresses under saddle you can solve problem behaviour, remove frustration when you are working with your horse and improve your confidence.
• How to analyse and evaluate a horse’s behaviour and what it understands and what it can perform confidently
• Strategies to improve a horse’s focus, learning and confidence
• How to progress the benefits of ground work into under saddle training
• How to overcome problems on the ground and in the saddle

SIGNIFICANT FOR: Spooky/anxious/nervous horses, young/green horses, horses with ANY behavioural or riding issue OR people keen to improve their horse training knowledge, skills and performance results.

What You Need to Bring to a Clinic

For ground work: Rope halter & 12-13ft lead rope (the greatest training tool anyone can have in their tack room), training stick & string or short lunge whip or training flag, gloves (recommended but optional), riding boots and protection boots/bandages (recommended but optional) for your horse including bell boots if your horse is shod.
For ridden work: Saddle, girth, saddle blanket, bridle (can be bitless or with a bit), approved riding helmet, whip (if required), and riding boots.

Organisation

The clinic will run from 8am-4pm each day. You will need to arrive early on the first day to allow time for introductions, signing waivers, etc. Your session can focus just on ground work, ground work and ridden work or just ridden activities.

Types of Participants (Participant with Horse, Participant without Horse & Fence Sitter)

Below is a description of each participate type.

Participant with Horse - These are participants that bring along one horse to the clinic and participate in the coaching activities and discussions. They also participate in the pre and post clinic Zoom calls and get access to the clinic online course for a month prior to participating in the clinic.

Participant without Horse - These are participants that get access to the clinic online course for a month prior to the clinic, participate in the pre and post clinic Zoom calls. They do not bring a horse to the clinic but get to participate in the discussions and observe the coaching activities. This clinic position is ideal for those that are unsure of whether their horse will cope with the travelling required for the clinic, or being able to emotionally handle the clinic environment. Being involved in the pre-clinic activities and being able to work with Shelley through the online course at home with your horse will help you learn how to help your horse. Then being able to attend the clinic and observe the other horses and how Shelley's process progresses and support horses will give you many ideas and inspiration for how to progress your own horse.

Fence Sitter - Fence sitting is restricted to those that are family or friends of those attending the clinic. This is to ensure the clinic is a supportive environment with a focus on the participants.

Clinic Cost:

From $595 (Participant with Horse) or From $400 (Participant without Horse) and $180 (Fence Sitter)

Clinic costs cover daily ground fees and day yards.

For participants WITH and WITHOUT horses it also covers staying overnight with your horse at Cottonwood for the night of the 3 & 4 July 2023. If you wish to stay outside of this time period you will be required to pay the extra overnight costs. Fence sitters are welcome to stay overnight but will have to pay the additional costs of staying overnight in the bunkhouse or camping as this is not included in fence sitting tickets.

Important:

1. Everyone over the age of 16 that attends the clinic MUST be a participant or fence sitter, even if they are a support person. These events are designed to maximise learning and for Shelley’s time to be dedicated to helping those that attend. Therefore, the clinic is designed to involve only a small number of people.

2. Payment for the clinic needs to be made in full a month prior to the clinic. Once full payment is received each participant (with or without horse) will be given access to the online clinic course.

3. Please make sure you read the Payment, Cancellation and Refund Policy carefully during the booking process so that you understand what happens if you cannot make the final payment or attend the clinic for whatever reason.

4. Tea, Coffee, Water and snacks will be provided at the clinic but you will need to bring your own meal provisions.

5. Please make sure you bring a camp chair and feed provisions for your horse.

6. There to be NO photography or videoing at clinics, workshops or seminars without prior permission.
