Community
This post is a call out to all the community builders out there.
The ones that bring the horse people together.
The ones that create great events and opportunities to practice, learn and hang out with people that love horses too.
The horse can take you on a special journey of personal growth, but going through this surrounded by people that support, understand and cheer you on is what gives it true meaning.
I am currently on a month of clinics up and down the east coast of Australia. I just finished my first of two clinics in Grafton. I adore the community up here.
There is one very special person that needs to be mentioned - Fiona Brown from Horse Harmony. Fiona is an excellent horse woman herself but is also an amazing connector of people.
I wish to share this beautiful post by Kas Kensho about her journey with her lovely mare Ziggy. Kaz has allowed me to share her words of what happened to her yesterday at my clinic but what has been put in place by the support and guidance of Fiona and the community she has created
Words By Kaz Kensho
“This is what 3 years looks like.
3 years ago I wanted a horse that was “just for me”. I very quickly learned you get the horse you need not the horse you think you want.
I’ve gone through the entire emotional spectrum at least 4 times with Ziggy. Fear. Love. Hope. Empathy. Frustration. Anger. Curiosity. Joy. Relief. All of it and every combination.
I came so close to walking away and forgetting about horses all together.
Ziggy taught me the importance of community. As a person that has experienced the world as a cold and lonely place to be where all I could ever depend on was myself and me only…the concept of community has been the hardest life lesson of all. Once I opened myself up to the concept of community, and believed that I….me…the miserable wretch…was worthy of FRIENDS. Worthy of love. Worthy of support….and learnt to trust in that community…everything changed.
There are far too many people for me to thank individually. The community I’m talking about…you know who you are (even if you don’t have anything to do with horses….don’t think you’ve been discounted because you haven’t). So, dear community, thank you from the bottom of my soul. Thank you for your support. Your guidance. Your patience.
Ziggy and I had our first true ride in partnership today, believing in each other, trusting each other, as a team. I’ve shed many many many tears over this first ride. Both in the three years it took to get here, but especially today.
I am so grateful for the journey so far, for the community this glorious creature has gifted me with, and am so excited to see the adventures that follow.”
