TRAINING INSIGHT - Being Conscious of Your Thoughts and Actions

This is Bec Cook and her daughter’s new pony Millie. Millie was has a tendency to be rushy and anticipate. This is Bec demonstrating how you can get a horse to respond off very tiny changes of energy and movement within yourself. This requires great awareness and control of your body and your own thoughts and it has TWO positive effects on the horse.

1. By having great awareness it keeps you in the present with your horse (think of the idea of mindfulness) and gives your horse greater consistency and in doing so the horse great confidence.

2. It really gets your horse focused on YOU! The quieter you communicate the more engaged in you they become....think of how much you have to focus and concentrate when you are trying to listen to someone that is quietly spoken compared to how you can easily multitask while listening to someone that is loud and talking rubbish a lot of the time.

So this is Bec showing a beautiful connection with Millie doing beautiful upward and downward transitions off the smallest changes within Bec that you might not be able to see but which Millie is excellent at detecting. This is a good example of a horse being "with" its handler....Millie is WITH Bec
